revlon photo ready foundation product review

(1/5)
since the makeup world has basically informed women all over the world that we NEED to be high def wearing ladies, aka flawless – or at least our faces, i decided to take the plunge and try a less expensive version of a high def makeup.
i went to my local riteaid and picked up some revlon photo ready foundation in caramel and because riteaid is also currently having a bogo sale, i also picked up revlon’s new beyond natural concealer and highlighter duo.
i’ll be reviewing the concealer shortly.
right now, the foundation is in limited distribution/preview, but is slowly rolling out for a full launch in about a month. so don’t be surprised at the limited color selection for women of color until feb.
i spent an hour in riteaid walking in repeat circles around the three makeup isles; looking at products and comparing mascaras, et. al, don’t we all?! he he…but the only thing i didn’t take out, put back in and take out of my little basket was this foundation. i was so excited to try it.
ugh, if i’d only known what was in store for me…
ladies, i cannot explain how much of a FAIL this product was for me!
i’m talking pure, greasy, oil slick, shiny, skin after only two hours!
in terms of coverage and finish, it provides medium coverage that is buildable. it also has tiny shimmers in it – which you can see when you look at the bottle – shimmers which are supposed to give you a luminous, dewy finish. as far as that dewy look goes, yes, it does give you a dewy finish that when first applied looks AWESOME! however, (for me) that dewy looks turns into condensation and then an oil slick! boooo!
the consistency was nice and pleasant and the smell was regular – nothing to write home about. i have to say that i really liked the way it went on – it has a very soft and smooth consistency, the ease of the pump – one pump gives you enough for your whole face, and the initial application. it looked fab right after i finished applying it. but that’s just it. it’s a bamboozling foundation. the wool was pulled over my eyes. it’s a trickster, ya’ll!
seriously revlon? come on! this was a hot mess and actually made me sad because i was so excited about this working! i mean, high def makeup? just the idea gets me all giddy.
i naturally have oily skin so i picked up this foundation hoping that it would be oily skin friendly. nope! i went to touch my face two hours after application and makeup came off on my hands – i could see a light brown residue. actually, my face never really felt dry or finished after i applied it. like it was always on the edge of being dry, but not really. so.not.cute.
i love, love the packaging and the pump. it makes the bottle look very sleek; i would have liked to display it on my vanity. and love the idea of high def flawless skin, but this makeup needs to be reformulated before i’d want to use it ever again.
i used this over my daily moisturizer as i normally do with my bare minerals. i do not recommend this product for oily skinned ladies, even if you want to set it with powder, because the oil breaks through. it’s just not a tight product. seems like revlon dropped the ball on this one. back to the mixing room revlon!
seems like i’m not the only one who shares this sentiment. this youtuber feels just like i do.
have you tried this product yet? or are you looking forward to trying it?

Oh damn! I saw this today at the PX and I was thinking about buying it…so glad that I didn’t! I am so sad to hear that it isn’t worth it when it looks so promising!

Thanks for the review. I was anxious to try this but they did not have my color available when I went. I don’t have oily skin, so if there is a BOGO when my color is available I might try it.

@Lakish: yes, it looked so promising! i mean high def makeup? just the description makes you want to spend some dollars. revlon has created a mess in my opinion. i just don’t know about this one. it was a complete fail for me. but you can always buy it from riteaid or cvs (ask cvs about their return policy, but you can return opened makeup to riteaid) and try it out and return it.
i DO NOT recommend you trying it out on a date night or club night or any night where lots of folks might see you. this one is just getting too many bad reviews.

Thank God for someone who feels the same way I do with picking and choosing the right foundation for your skin!!! I’ve worked in salons, and ”high end” department stores for years, and my makeup of choice will always be COLORSTAY!!!I have to strongly agree with you about MAC, and others about coverage, and I know for a fact, the original colorstay beats with coverage, hands down! I’VE WORNED THIS FOR 10 YEARS OR MORE!!!1
I also know that revlon colorstay will not rub off on your hands,or clothes! I agree with ”go with what you know”, and I turned 50 this year, and I still get great compliments especially with my daughters, I like that! Thanks for letting me know about the photoready makeup, saved me the trouble of getting upset all over again! Keep up the good work! JANIE W.

I wish I had found this page before I bought photoready. My face has become one big oil slick and my pores are huge, it only dawned on me today why. Thank you for writing this. Now I know I am not crazy. I should have known earlier b/c every time I wash my hands after putting it on, the water “beads” at first which is what happens when I wash my hands after getting butter, oil, or anything greasy on them. Gross! Glad I have found an easy solution to my oily face though!!!!
