2010 protective styling: curly fro / “big chop” / pixie
my protective styling is back again in full force this year.
i’ve decided to keep my hair covered to maximize growth, a.k.a protective styled, until early fall of this year.
in sept??? of 09 (may have been late aug) i started wearing my lace wig. i’m protective styling to retain length and to mix it up a bit. also, i want to do so many different things that i know if i did these things to my hair, i’d screw it up and end up some kinda bald headed! no, no, no.
so to have fun with my hair, i’m just going to buy some more hair!
my plan is to install a fresh set of cornrows every two months – moisturize daily or when needed, wash twice a month and apply my lace wigs (or a wig that i’m contemplating making) as i go along.
i plan to start off with “big hair”, but when the real heat of summer hits, it’s going to be wayyyyy to much hair so i’m going to do a fake “chop.”
and then late summer, even more of a “chop!” yep, i have it allll planned out. if all goes well, my hairstyles are gong to go look similar to these styles (my inspirations), in this order:
late winter (sometime in feb) to spring and early summer big hair
early summer to mid summer (may through mid julyish)

late summer to early fall (julyish through september)

all of these styles will be done with wigs and will have accompanying tutorials.
if you want to try on some hair styles to see what will work best for your face shape and style and before you rush out to buy a wig, which i highly recommend, be sure to check out thousands of hairstyles @ dailymakover.com! it’s free!
if you plan to protective style this summer, share your tips and how you plan to do it! are you going to using wigs, extensions like twists, or braids, etc.? please share!

I actually love wigs as a protective style but I can’t deal with the maint. of a lace. I have one that I wear behind about 1/2 inch of my hairline, that I secure with clips.

cynthia, i love lace wigs but i never glue them down any more. i always pin them because i HATE sleeping in a lace wig; plus it’s better for the hair.
but my new love is synthetic wigs because they are so inexpensive and versatile. i can cut into them and not feel so bad since i try not to pay more than $30 per wig.
