pantene relaxed and natural breakage defense deep conditioning mask product review
i’m in love! for a drugstore product, this mask is

(5/5)
what say you about the Pantene Relaxed & Natural Conditioner Breakage Defense Mask?
i’m pretty sure many of you guys remember when pantene was THE thing – THE product. in the late 90’s it was the go to product line for all of my white friends. i remember trying the product line (the white bottles) but never really “getting” the hype. back then i was relaxed and though the shampoo and condish were nice, they did nothing extra ordinary for my hair.
i guess it was this way for many women of color since pantene decided in the early 2000’s to come out with this line of products targeted (more specifically, i’d argue) towards black women of color – hence the name “relaxed and natural.”
to be honest, i don’t like their relaxed and natural condish (since i co-wash) for washing but i’d heard tons of hype surrounding the Pantene Relaxed & Natural Conditioner Breakage Defense Deep Conditioning Mask. i’ve been ignoring it for years when i decided that it was time to get down to business and pick up a jar.
i’ve yet to find my holy grail deep conditioner – store bought at least – so i wanted to see what this product would do for me.
initial reactions: first of all, i have a VERY hard time finding this stuff. i mean, i was looking everywhere! walmart, rite aid, walgreens, you name it. but now that i know i can order it online, i’m good. you can get it at amazon: click here to buy the Pantene Relaxed & Natural Conditioner Breakage Defense Deep Conditioning Mask.
ingredients: water, stearly alchohol, amdimethicone, behentrimonium choride, cety alcohol, coconut oil, jojoba seed oil, panthenol, pathenyl ethyl ether, fragrance, lysine hcl, methyl tyrosinate hcl, histidine, benzyl alcohol, disodium edta, methylchloroisothiazolinone, methylisothiazolinone, sodium hydroxide
though the ingredients are not the best of the best, there are some excellent properties to this mask (oils, water, good alcohol, panthenol, etc.) and for that reason, i’ll keep it as a part of my stash for now.
smell: light, sexy and sophisictaded. sounds like i just described a perfume, right? but this stuff def has that sexy woman smell. not too sweet or flowery – just right. as soon as i smelled it, i pictured myself curled up reading a book on a lazy, rainy weekend afternoon as my man softly massaged my my scalp (OMG! a good scalp rub can put me to sleep….) and sniffed my hair, nuzzling his nose into the back of my head and side of my face. *le sigh*
okay, back on track!
texture: nice and thick, which i like to lay on as a heavy cream.
product description: created for women of color. unique amino pro-v complex. deep penetrating formula. this repairs and protects hair to reduce shedding. essential oils and moisturizing condition.
usage: once every two weeks, though i’m thinking of stepping it up to once a week. if you are like me and use a lot of conditioner, then you may want to think about buying this in bulk from amazon (i love that freaking website!). i can go through a jar of this stuff after 2-3 uses. it’s 7.6 oz but i like my hair to be plastered with condish when i deep condition.
results: super slip. say what?! i’m such a side-eye queen when it comes to products claiming slip. the cones in this product do not fail me. i’m still iffy on whether or not my hair likes cones, but i will tell you that this stuff is like butter. unlike the samy masque that i reviewed, this mask leave your hair moisturized. it’s worth the low cost investment because if you ask me, i would have told you this was a high-end product had i been blind sampling it. my kinky, curly hair was soooooo soft after using this.
as for the claims/description of the product: i cannot personally speak on the decrease in shedding since my hair does not shed more than normal, but it does provide moisture which we know is a result of sealing in the water from my wash with the essential oils and providing the slip/detangling with the cones.
cons: the only con for me was the size of the jar. but then again, in my world SIZE MATTERS – small jars of condish just won’t do for my heavy hands and thick mane. i went through 3/4 of this jar in one applicaton! ![]()
if you are sensitive to cones, they you may not want to use this product, but if you don’t mind using them every now and then, i suggest you give this product a try.
if you’ve tried the Pantene Relaxed & Natural Conditioner Breakage Defense Mask and like it, or didn’t please share your feelings on this product.
