miss kimmy keeps it fly in her louboutins (and chucks)

in KINKY GIRLS

when i first learned about kimmy, i was enthralled by her louboutin “dillans” – the shoes that are on my need to buy but probably never will list.

and then I kept noticing that everything she posted was…fiyah; flats, jackets, scarves and her hair.

she maintains a personal/lifestyle blog that gives us a mini peep inside her world – a world chock full of shoes, clothes and all kinda other fun things lots of us curly girls love.

i took the time to get to know this corporate america working, fly dressin’ bella, better and found out that she’s even cooler than I’d ever imagined (especially her grandma)!

click on any of the products or links throughout the interview to learn more about kimmy’s products or to be inspired by her style.

so tell me, who the heck are ya?! where are you from and what do you do?

I’m Miss Kimmy! lol I’m from NJ, went to school in Philadelphia (Temple U all day!), lived in Atlanta for the past two years, and lived in a handful of other cities up and down the east coast!

I recently moved back up north to start my career in NYC, and JUST got a new job in corporate America, but don’t want to jinx it so that’s all i’ll say =)

lots of people come to kisforkinky because it’s a site that highlights kinky hair care, but the site as a whole is also about ALL textures of curly hair: so kinky. so curly. so fly….so, tell me about your hair.

It’s definitely naturally curly! I wrote a little about my recent hair crisis on my blog (post titled Curl Mania) I had an injection of very unwelcome, yet very overwhelming stress introduced to my life recently and the first toll it took was on my poor head. My hair used to be a lot thicker and fuller but now I would describe my curls as fine and wavy.

what curly hair products do you keep on deck at all times? what styling tools do you use?

I LOVE Hair Rules products (also talked about this in my Curl Mania post)… They moisturize and define my curls like no other products i’ve used in the past…I use their leave-in conditioner, wavy mousse, no suds-shampoo and conditioner. (below from left to right)

what is your everyday hair style? do you wear hair accessories?

Usually down with the front pulled back into a kinda twisty section, secured with bobby pins. I love headbands but I have yet to not look like a fool in them lol, working on it!

bobbi pins don’t have to be boring!

i notice you straighten your hair. what products do you use to straighten it and do you blow it straight or flat iron it?

I very rarely straighten it, mainly because i’m too lazy. When I do, I get it done at the salon and they usually set it with large rollers and then blow dry straight (Leave-in conditioner when it’s still wet, and a finishing cream when it’s done to tame my fly aways/frizz)

what is your skin care and beauty routine like? what are your problem areas and products do you use on your face?

Another target my stress took was my face! I have very oily skin anyway, so I’m always one wash away from a breakout (meaning, if I go to sleep without thoroughly washing it, I will wake up with little surprises!) So add a little stress and a little sweat from my new hobby (the gym) and my skin was a mess! I got some prescription face wash that is now controlling it, but i’m still in search of some great products. I heard great reviews about natural African Shea Butter, so I’m testing it on my body first before I let it near my face! Retin-A has also helped control my oily skin and prevented breakouts.

for a non, prescription, less-potent version of retinol, you could try philosophy’s ‘help me’ retinol night treatment or philosophy’s on a clear day retinol treatment

what’s in your purse constantly? got any favorite lipsticks or mascaras?

I wear very little face makeup, usually just some under eye concealer (Nars) and a dab of powder bronzer (Mac) and mascara/lip gloss (Chanel). I also use Anastasia brow kit to fill [in] my brows.

i love your outfits and before i “knew” who you were, I called you the “louboutin girl“! i seriously could wear everything from your closet! :) how would you describe your fashion sense and style?

Very simple! I love a basic white tee and jeans combo with unexpected, and ornate accessories! I own way more shoes/bags/jewelry than I do clothes! Self-proclaimed accessory queen lol =)

kimmy is wearing louboutin dillians which are currently sold out everywhere, but at a price tag of over 1k, some nice alternatives are the dollhouse soleil which looks just like the dillian and costs only $48 (apply coupon code ENJOY09 for 20% off, making them $38.90 with free shipping), or you could rock the summer friendly, big and ruffled report signature “dante” sandals.

kimmy’s bcbg clutch is boss! these alternatives give the same chic effect at varying price tags

who is your style icon?

My mother! She always pulls of that “effortless elegance” look! That’s probably the key to my style, not trying too hard.

momma “stiletto”

nanna “stiletto”

(mom and grandmom “stiletto” are haute, no?! look at grandmom’s dress and hat!! she was killing it in eygpt in the 1940s!!)

so you already know that every girl needs at least 5 staple pieces. what would you say yours are? what pieces in your closet describe you?

1. A sturdy, neutral leather bag. [I love my] Miu Miu tan leather bag with gold studs. [It's] my ALL time favorite bag, so understated yet fab.

this hype leather handbag and arden b. bag are wonderful neutral but fun alternatives at excellent prices!

2. Scarves! Adds a pop of color/dimension to a basic outfit.

3. Statement piece of jewelry ( I’m almost always wearing either big earrings or an oversized ring)

the parrot ring is so fly and cheap, you’d be crazy to NOT buy it!

4. The perfect white tee. My favorite t-shirt brands are James Perse and Young, Fabulous, and Broke (from left to right).

5. Confidence!

i can tell that you love your heels! but which do you prefer overall? heels or flats?

Beautiful stilettos obviously have a place in my heart, but realistically if i’m walking more than 2 city blocks or leaving my house for more than 8 hours, I ALWAYS have a back up pair of flats ready.

kimmy’s plum colored heels would look great as a part of your summer wardrobe!

I hate being uncomfortable! And there are so many cute flats out there, my outfit does not have to suffer!

what was the first pair of designer shoes that you ever owned?

My first pair were vintage Dior pumps that my mother bought for me when I was like 13. She got them for a bargain and they were very plain!

how do you see your style evolving over time? what are some of your style goals?

kimmy’s converse are the “CT Black” high tops

My style will inevitably become more mature, (i.e suits, blouses, Chanel-esque tweed jackets) I dress like that at work, but my off time is for me to dress as casually/fun as possible. I see my style evolving into a combination of the two!

who are 5 favorite shoe designers or brands that you think are fly?

Christian Louboutin, LAMB, Jimmy Choo, Dolce Vita, Jeffrey Campbell

louboutin

(the pink Samira 100′s are only…click on the shoe to find out!)

l.a.m.b.

jimmy choo

dolce vita

jeffery campbell

what handbag designers are you feeling? and what are you carrying on your arm these days?

I used to view Louis Vuitton as predictable and cliche but they have continued to impress me!

Marc Jacobs also can do no wrong!

i saw a pic of your brother – he’s quite the dresser! do you and he ever share style tips?

I dress him, so yes lol! He lives in a different state but I help him when I can.

miss kimmy is a haute blogger with an even hauter closet. so kinky, so curly, so fly from head to toe, be inspired by her style, hair care and get to know her better. peep her blog, strawberry stiletto, and be sure to follow her on twitta @misskimmy!
