
i am an avid swimmer and was a fish out of water as a child. i could have been born a mermaid and i would have been fine. in college i even taught swimming for the red cross. and though the water loved me back as a water baby – it did not love my hair while i was relaxed. at the time i did not really know how to care for my relaxed hair. healthy hair care all around was just not a big deal as it is now.

okay, it is true that on average we “age” slower than people lighter than us because of the melanin in our skin. some people get by only on this fact – i know people who have lived HARD lives and their faces still don’t show the damage they’ve done to themselves.
others have cracked all over the place. so it’s not true that “black don’t crack,” it’s more like “black don’t crack as much.”
