(3.5/5)
i like this cantu shea butter leave-in conditioning repair cream. i’ve been using it for about four years and though i don’t use it as much as i used to when i first discovered it, it was one of my first staple product that i continue to recommend to lots of naturals looking to detangle with a conditioner that provides super slip, is creamy and a leave-in.
the texture of this conditioner is similar to a thick souffle and can dry hard like a gel if you use too much so you may have to play around with it to figure out how much your hair likes. many naturals only like to use this when they are doing styles that require some kind of hold and that’s understandable seeing as though this can dry your hair a little stiff. i avoid that by diluting it when i want to use it as a straight leave-in.
also the package says to not use it on your new growth. not sure why that is, though i have a few ideas. i do use it on my new growth sometimes and have not noticed any adverse effects.
pros:
- *price – about $6 for 16fl oz!
- *smell – pleasent and not overbearing
- *slip is great. this cantu shea butter leave-in conditioning repair cream + a jilbere shower comb? heaven!!
- *it’s a creamy leave-in with a heavy but not too weighty consistency
- *contains shea butter so it makes even the kinkiest hair super soft
cons:
- *curdles when added to other products; this cantu does not play fair. this product just does not play well with a lot of other products without giving you “curdles”
- *sometimes hard to find; i usually pick mine up at walmart or cvs and walgreens
- *can dry stiff if you use too much or don’t dilute
- *leaves the weirdest residue in the shower
i can use this product alone just straight out of the shower. it elongates my curls and gives me excellent curl definition. this photo shows the product applied.

description:
An intensive deep penetrating leave in cream conditioning treatment Helps: Made in USA Daily styling – Apply to towel dried hair. Work a generous amount of product into hair beginning at the roots to the tips. Comb through for even distribution. Do not rinse. Apply more to longer hair at the ends or problem areas. Leave in treatment – Apply as directed for “daily styling” just after shampooing. Re-apply and cover with a plastic cap overnight for maximum absorption and intensive conditioning. Frizz free hair- Apply daily to split ends or damaged areas. Comb through and let dry naturally.
cantu shea butter leave-in conditioning repair cream also makes your roots soft and manageable so sometimes i’ll use it (diluted with water) to spray my roots before i twist my hair for a twist out. i’ll also use it to co-wash when i want to just do something “different.”
and if you have little one, this works great on their little kinks and curls since it’s a creamy leave-in and moisturizes well with water and seals with the shea butter.
i give it 3.5 loubies because it’s just not as good i think it can be – the fact that it does not play fair with other products is the main reason for this. but it’s definitely not boo-boo trash and worth trying if you like shea butter products.
