(5/5) s-curl
(4/5) care free curl gold

once a die hard care free curl gold girl — i’m talking since the last 4 years or so, i’m now using s-curl. don’t get me wrong, care free curl gold is great, but i gave it 4 stars because in the natural world, it’s right on the coatail of s-curl as far as moisturizing and leaving your hair soft.

because s-curl is more creamy vs. care free curl gold’s more liquidy texture, s-curl gets one more loubie from me and more votes in general from naturals – especially type 4s.

both cost about the same, around 3-5 dollars, and i’ve found them in my local grocery store and pharmacies, so they are easy to get your hands on.

now, i know you may be thinking – jheri curl juice?! yes, ladies, if you didn’t know, now you know!

carefree curl gold product description:
Activates and moisturizes in one easy step. Restores curls, smoothes hair and adds sheen. Leaves hairfeeling silkier, looking livelier…never greasy or stiff. Apply small amount of product to palm of hand. Rub hands together, then apply evenly over entire head. Massage thoroughly. Gently comb or pick through hair to evenly distribute and detangle. Made in Mexico.

s-curl product description:
S-Curl Activator and Moisturizer may be used daily to maintain and condition your curly hair style. It contains Glycerine and Vitamin B5, which together eliminate breakage and keep your curls, waves and natural hair soft and healthy. This special No Drip Formula allows you to use S-Curl Activator and Moisturizer without fear of ruining your clothes or pillow cases.

a staple for many a natural – of all textures – these two moisturizing products work well as daily moisturizers and leave-ins after a conditioner wash. their main ingredient is water followed by glycerin – a humectant – which gives them uber moisturizing properties.

s-curl ingredients:
Water, Glycerine, Cetearyl Alcohol , Propylene Glycol , Acetamide MEA , Ceteth-20 , Olealkonium Chloride , Stearalkonium Chloride , Panthenol , Simethicone , Imidazolidinyl Urea , Methylparaben , Propylparaben , Fragrance

carefree curl gold ingredients:
Aqua (Water), Propylene Glycol , Glycerin, Stearyl Alcohol , Cetearyl Alcohol , Phenoxyethanol , Dimethicone , Oleth-20 , Dicetyldimonium Chloride , Polyquaternium-11 , Methylparaben , Parfum (Fragrance) , Dimethiconol , Linalool , Hexyl Cinnamal , Benzyl Salicylate , Benzyl Benzoate , Butylphenyl Methylpropional , Benzyl Alcohol , Limonene , CI 19140 (Yellow 5) , CI 15510 (Orange 4) , Behentrimonium Methosulfate

both of these products work WONDERS on your new growth as a transitioner and all all over as a natural. i cannot express how well they soften your hair and don’t leave it greasy.

when i first heard of naturals using these products, i had a flash of coming to america…”just let your soul glo!”

but these products do not leave your hair looking and feeling greasy at all if you use a regular amount; well, almost anything can give you that greasy look if you use too much. s-curl and carefree curl gold do quite the opposite. they moisturize your hair with NO greasy look or feel at all. whodathunkit?

care free curl gold has more of a “jheri” smell to it than s-curl, but it’s easy to get rid of if you don’t want to be reminded of the 80s all the time. a few drops of your favorite essential oil should do just the trick. because they are scented lightly, it will be easy to cover up. i recommend adding either lavender, rosemary or rose hip oils to work with the scent and not against it. a citrus scent might also work well. you should take a small amount out and put one drop of essential on in it to test the scent before adding it to the entire bottle to make sure you will like the final outcome.

these products will always have a special place in my natural heart. and don’t worry if you can’t get s-curl, care free curl gold works well, however, i do suggest you buy and try both. and if you are struggling with learning to moisturize your hair, or want to know how you can add these moisturizing products to your hair care regimen, be sure to read this article next.

I just bought the S-Curl today as part of my new moisture regimen for the new year. Heard a lot of good things about it so I hope that I love it as much as other naturals.

I have the Carefree Curl Instant Moisturizer w/ Glycerin and Protein and I love it just as much as the Lusters S-Curl!

Usually I apply a light oil afterwards.
