PRODUCT REVIEW UPDATE!: this post was updated 7.19.2010! scroll down to see my second review

like the mimosa hair honey i recently reviewed, i’ve had this carol’s daughter healthy hair butter for a while now.

and like the mimosa hair honey, this went right to the back of my product closet, but after pulling it out almost a year later :o , i’m just not that impressed. i don’t hate it but i don’t love it either. i consider it a so-so butter.

when i see butter on any product marketed to ethnic hair…well, actually on any product for hair, i get happy and giddy like a kid in a candy store. i think, “thick”, “butter-like” and “paste”, aka – weight but leaves my hair fluffy.

product description:

This blend of essential oils of lavender, rosemary, and ylang-ylang promote general hair health for all hair types. This creamy butter softens the hair, minimizes breakage, and conditions with nourishing shea butter, almond oil, and cocoa butter, making it a perfect choice for the whole family. What it is formulated WITHOUT:- Parabens- Sulfates- Synthetic Fragrances- Synthetic Dyes- Petro-Chemicals- Phthalates- GMO- Triclosan

this has a very smooth texture and consistency. it also smells good – a lemon and mint juxtaposition.

the kinda weird thing about this product is that it can get greasy on you and sticky after a few days. however, does not weight my hair down like a like a butter would do (this is only true if you don’t use too much otherwise your hair will be a sticky mess from the start), but it does give me shine and manageability and helps with frizz and for me that’s what makes this a keeper at all – the frizz help. it does not completely tame my frizz but it does help out with it a lot.

$10 for this small jar? eh, i consider this SERIOUSLY overpriced when you compare other products on the market that OUTPERFORM this butter and you get more for your money – uh, like plain ole she butter.

but, if you are looking to try some of carol’s daughters products and are a natural with kinky, curly or coarse hair, you should think about adding it to your list. just don’t be heavy-handed with it unless you want gooey hair. i’d say a nickle sized amount works for an adult head of med/avg density hair.

i have found that this works best on my hair when it is wet vs. dry as that allows it to melt into my hair vs just sitting on top of it in all of its “can get sticky” on you glory.

i also think that with the consistency and effectiveness of this product that this would be a good product to try for kinky, curly kiddies. i take that back

when i run out, i doubt i’d buy it again, however, i don’t regret my purchase.

i get bummed when a product does not live up to its claims so i’m going to review this healthy hair butter again after i used it for a while – varying my usage and report back once the jar is done – if i can make it through the jar.

PRODUCT REVIEW UPDATE!: 7.19.2010 (original review was 6.9.2010)

no…yes, i’m going to give this a no. no mattter how i try to use this butter, it leaves my hair wanting more: more moisture more…something.

i had high hopes for this butter and it let me down. i ended up mixing the rest of my little jar in with some shea butter and olive oil to get the best out of it.

overall, the butter made my curls this indescribable (though i’ll try anyway) dry, sticky, hard. see, i told you it was indescribable.

the texture of the butter fooled me, because just from the feel of it, i thought it was going to work wonders on my hair.

the end verdict for me? personally, i just think that my hair is wayyyy to coarse for this stuff. i think it’s better suited for finered hair bellas.

have you tried this carol’s daughter healthy hair butter? how did you like it…or not?

I actually <3 HHB also. I use her as a layer right before I put on my sealant layer. I also have coarse hair.
