i want her hair!: dry natural hair braid out

one of the sneaky ways i get my hair to hang longer when i want a braid out is to blow dry it on cool. this gives me optimally stretched hair and the length i want for my braid outs.
juvenescent.wordpress.com had this wonderful braid out tutorial that is an exact copy of what i do. if you are looking to get a longer, heavier braid out, head these tips.
- start with dry or damp detangled hair.
- section the hair into quadrants.
- select a product that will hold and mold your hair, but will not make your hair hard. i use cantu leave-in shea butter conditioning repair cream.
- separate the sectioned hair and add enough product to spread along the entire length of the hair. the more product you use, the heavier your hair will be, so be conscious of how much you put on your strands.
- braid your hair. total braids used was 10.
- sit under a dryer for an hour or leave the braids in overnight.
take the braids down carefully, leaving the hair clumpy and crinkled. - take your oil or moisturizing product of choice [i would not suggest water-based as this is a dry hairstyle] and emulsify it in your hands.
- run the product through each section and gently pull apart the clumped hair. be careful not to frizz the hair or make each section too small. you just want to add volume.
- separate little by little until you get the desired shape.
- style as you want.
