you, your natural hair and the next 5 years

in HAIR LUST

five years ago, my hair was natural but definitely not healthy. it was shoulder length, had heat damage and i had no idea of how to fully treat and care for my natural hair.

five years ago, i was three years into being natural and a natural that thought that my hair would naturally flourish because i was, well, “natural.” five years ago, my hair knowledge was non-existent and my routine a hot mess.

five years later, i’m a book full of tips, information and advice for those looking to go natural and for those that are already are natural. and five years later, i’m still learning new things about natural hair everyday.

in the next five years, i anticipate that my hair will be waist length when pressed, my hair will finally fall to my shoulders in it’s shrunken state and i will be at the end of my ultimate length journey.

five years. it’s not that long to wait.

so, what about you? where are you going to be or hope to be in the next five years of your natural hair journey?

5 years from now I’m hoping to have bra length, healthy natural hair. Thank goodness for blogs and other naturals. Knowledge is power.

My hair twin speaks! I experienced a similar journey as Vonnie. My two year anniversary passed in Aug and now I truly enjoy my hair length. Still I aim to grow my hair to bra strap length. In 5 years, I hope that I reach my length goal and I hope I learn to do more styles to my hair.

I went natural October 2005. So 5 years ago I had cut my long, relaxed hair into a chin-length bob and dyed it golden blonde. Then went platinum blonde. Then went auburn. Then went Kool-aid red. Mind you this is all in the months of August-September. I finally did the big chop in October.

5 years later, I am in love with my hair. Curly (or poofy/frizzy in Houston) it reaches beneath my shoulders, the 1 time I straightened it this year, it was just about waist length. I more-or-less have my low-maintenance routine down and am just enjoying the ride.

5 years from now I see a big poofy curly long mane that I will be proud of! And maybe have a daughter with a mini-mane. :-)

I’m eight months into my natural hair journey, and I’m loving it! Like Vonnie, I’m also glad that there are an abundance of natural hair blogs and youtube videos. They have helped me so much, from product choices to hair styles. Thankfully, my journey has been a fairly smooth one since I’m staying away from heat, for now. I’ll probably straighten my hair when it’s at or around waist length, hopefully five years from now. :)

I am 2 years into my journey and glad that there are so many blogs and youtubes that have helped me out. The first 6 months of my going natural were a hot mess because I had no game plan nor knowledge, didn’t even know if i was going natural just couldn’t afford perms all of the time and frankly didn’t care much. Then i discovered blogs and great products, well on my way now!
