hmmm, so there i was, in my favorite, easy-to-get-to beauty supply scoping out their generic products for a leave-in and there it was, their generic value products (gvp) conditioner. a whole 16 oz of it in a cheaper version of paul mitchell “the conditioner”.

i was intrigued. intrigued because i’d heard so many good things about paul mitchell “the conditioner” so i wanted to see if this version could keep up with the hype and because i really wanted to try a new leave-in that didn’t cost an arm and a leg – i was willing to forgo “all natural” for a good leave-in.

description
balance and moisturize your hair with gvp conditioner. this daily-use leave-in conditioner nourishes and protects hair. compare to paul mitchell “the conditioner” and save!

smoothes and detangles unruly hair
adds moisture and strength
enhances shine

gvp conditioner is a leave-in conditioner that is perfect for all hair types. can be used daily to nourish and protect hair from the wear and tear of daily styling. improves texture with natural extracts that smooth the surface and reduces static. it may also be used for conditioning the skin and for shaving.

ingredients
(if you are cone sensitive you may not like this conditioner – and though i am cone sensitive to some products, for some reason, this conditioner works well on my hair)

Water (Aqua), Cetyl Alcohol, Stearyl Alcohol, Glycerin, Ceteth-2, Cetrimonium Bromide, Bisamino PEG/PPG-41/3 Aminoethyl PG-Propyl Dimethicone, Hedychium Coronarium Root Extract, PEG-12 Dimethicone, Bisamino PEG/PPG-41/3 Aminoethyl PG-Propyl Dimethicone, Algae Extract, Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice, Anthemis Nobilis Flower Extract, Lawsonia Inermis (Henna) Extract, Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Extract, Rosmarinus Officinalis (Rosemary) Leaf Extract, PEG-12 Dimethicone, Wheatgermamidopropyl Ethyldimonium Ethosulfate, Citric Acid, Fragrance (Parfum), Blue 1, DMDM Hydantoin, Iodopropynyl Butylcarbamate, Methylparaben, Propylparaben

how i used it
i added extra virgin olive oil, jojoba oil and aloe vera juice to my conditioner, mixed it all up and applied it to my soaking wet hair and then plaited my hair up – making sure that when i made my plats my hair had a blue tint to it and conditioner were being squeezed out of the plaits slightly (this leave-in is blue). i let air dry under my scarf for the rest of the day. …check out these two before pics and the after.

once i took down my hair, i was left with really soft and shiny hair and my very coarse and kinky sections that’s normally hard and wiry had softened up tremendously leaving them much more pliable and manageable. that best thing i noticed about what this conditioner had done for me was that i had the best first day hair i have ever had. ever. i normally don’t care for my first day hair but this first day my hair was banging, okay?! my hair was very defined from my plaits and my strands felt very soft and not dry and product-y which is what silicone often does to my hair – strips it and makes it fill like silicon coated straw.

normally, my favorite two leave ins are giovanni direct and knot today, but because i get 16oz of leave in for less than $7, i’m more inclined to try to keep falling in love with this leave-in version from sally because it’s easier on my wallet and works just as good and may be even better than the two organic leave-ins.

last night, i used my leave-in mix as a weekly refresher making sure not to get my hair soaking we with it, but just a little damp and it worked great to re-moisturize my hair that was in need of my mid week refreshing. i’m very impressed, i have to say. i hope this is not a fluke! for such an affordable price, when products are often over priced, i’m loving my $7 bottle of leave-in hair dream. either way, i’ll be back to update this in a couple of weeks.

what say you? have you tried sally’s generic value products (gvp) conditioner? did you like it or are you using it now? how do you apply your leave-in?

About how much of the conditioner do you use? I read that too much can cause a buildup and weigh the hair down.

I LOVE the conditioner! I just bought a liter bottle on Amazon.com for 18.95 but I think I might try the generic kind at Sally’s when I run out.
