i normally keep it 100% fashion and hair around here because well, that’s what the blog is all about. but since i’ve been having so much fun offline, i decided to share a little bit more about my life. i’m a very private person outside of my sisters and close girlfriends whom i treat like my sisters, so sharing things about my personal life besides work or blogging is a bit unusual and rare for me.
but you guys have been following and supporting me for a while now and i thought it would be a bit different to add a little twist to the blog by talking a little more about my personal life. though, full disclosure here! i could freak out over this decision in a day, month or whenever and delete all evidence to said twisting!
i fell off the wagon, guys! i did. but i couldn’t help it. i had a self inflicted, no more “aveda hair products for 6 months” rule but when i was sent this aveda be curly curl enhancer i HAD to try it. i wanted to try it. why? because i love some aveda products! i have to be honest though, even though i’m a big fan, having kinky hair gives me pause because i am often left disappointed in lots of products – yes, even aveda has failed on my hair at times.
but not this aveda curl enhancer. not at all. i was floored with i unraveled my braids and saw how defined my hair was. can you say love at first braid out?
i can’t get with that whole, “let me cuss my girl out in love”, thing. not my steeze and to be honest, i just don’t get it. i’ve been called these things by strangers in places as awkward as public airport restrooms. like these strangers and i somehow, because of our shared reproduction anatomy, can bond over the epithets thrown at me like a rapper slings them around carelessly in songs. um no. i don’t know you.
me: standing at sink washing hands trying to hurry so i don’t miss my next flight.
stranger: “b*tch, those shoes are fierce!”
okay, in all fairness, the shoes were fierce, but why i got to be a b*tch though?
apologist say that women are taking the word “b*tch” back like black people are taking back nigger. oh, we are? i’m still confused as to what we are actually doing with that word, but i digress.
“I’m a devious girl / A sucker for swag / It’s nothing to give you what you like / I wanna be falling for you”
Good music and good people are still alive and kicking. Case in point: Luna Angel. With a name like that, you know she’s destined for greatness.
Luna hails from the Bay area, but she’s been cultivating her sound right here in LA. I first met Luna years ago through designer phenom Melody Ehsani. Through her kind demeanor and style, I could tell instantly that Luna’s an artist and that she has a beautiful soul. [click to continue…]
i’ve recently been going out to LAs hottest clubs and i’ve been dancing my butt off! but i’ve been having trouble keeping my hair looking cute while working up a sweat in these crowded areas. do you have any tips for keeping your hair cute even after sweating and dancing for 4 hours?
ebz, i’d love to say that i party like a rock star, but i don’t. the last time i stepped foot in a club my hair didn’t suffer because it was not overly crowded and i didn’t drop it low (as much as i used to). ;)
actually, i’ve never really be a clubber. even in college, i rarely went out to clubs unless i got that urge to hear the bass booming in my ears and to feel it vibrating throughout my body as my girls and i lived it up for the night. lounges were and are more of my thing. i like them because i get the ambiance of a club but i can get up and dance if i want to and sit and chill with good conversation the rest of the night – that’s more my style. but i feel you girl. i’m going through a phase. it’s called the mini/skirt phase. i want to show off my legs and with the plethora of cute skirts flooding the market right now, we are all left with endless possibilities of summer leg framing and cuteness. take for instance, this adorable tall multi stripe skirt. covered in black, serbert orange, pale pink and purple stripes, this skirt is definitely a ladies summer version of jucy candy cane. so sweet! clear skin. we all want it. some of us have it naturally and some of us, well, let’s just say, we’re no strangers to salicylic acid! and for those of us who don’t, often with the help of an excellent health insurance policy, a competent dermatologist and some patience, we can get it. but what [...]
when you think ninja, you normally don’t think hair, especially not natural hair. actually the thought of the words ninja and natural hair being the the same sentence befuddles me and i start to think of silly word combinations. but when adrianne took the time to make this nija/runway hair style come to life, the [...]
“sweetheart, now is time i let you know, don’t wanna rush, we should take it slow” groove theory could do no wrong in my eyes – ever. just the other day i was listening to “dija know” on repeat for the umpteenth time as i was cruising down the highway. as i listen to the [...]
