“I’m an optimist.
As a member of the Armed Forces, you put your life on the line for us.
You deserve to live out your dreams like everyone else.”
Hello lovelies. Every question that I get takes research to make sure I’m giving you the best guidance possible. Today’s question took some extra digging. Y’all like to give a girl a challenge, don’t you?
A fellow naturalista from my home state of South Carolina asks “Do you think It’s impossible to model if you are in the Armed Services?”
First of all, I’d like to take a moment and thank the extraordinary women and men who serve in our military. Despite political, religious, or cultural views, you go above and beyond the call of duty to protect the U.S. and our interests at home and abroad. Your job requires facing our enemies and doing what many of us are too afraid to do. That takes courage.
It also takes courage to act on your dreams. If modeling is what you want to do, then do it! Before you embark on that journey, there are a few things to keep in mind.
Are you on active duty?
-If you’re in the Reserves, then achieving your fashion goals might be a little easier. You’ve got more time to build your portfolio and find representation.
If you’re currently in the Marines, Army, Navy, or Air Force, you have to got more work to do. Ask yourself: is modeling a hobby or do you want it to be a permanent gig?
-If you just want to dabble in it, then try doing unpaid shoots for friends and student photographers. It’s a great way to test the waters and get your feet wet.
-If you want to go “full steam ahead”, you will need to consult one of your superiors. Talk with your commanding officers about your intentions. He or she will let you know if moonlighting as a model is even feasible. I’m an optimist. So I think as long as you keep your work tasteful and it doesn’t interfere with your military duties , you should be a-ok!
As a member of the Armed Forces, you put your life on the line for us. You deserve to live out your dreams like everyone else. It is your right and your freedom to pursue happiness. You’ve earned it!
If you’ve got any questions about modeling, I’ve got answers. Ask me anything that you want to know about being a model and getting your career started and I’m here with tips, tricks and advice. Leave your comments and questions in the comment section below, and I’ll get to work. Hit me!

LOVE the MARS chain, where is that from?
I’m currently serving in the Air Force (active duty) and if you want to model, model! I know plenty of models, rapper, singer, dancers etc who are active duty, you just balance that with your job. If you end up modeling and becoming widely known or making a lot of money from doing it, the military will actually give you the option of getting out :) Great truthful advice you gave!
I was in the Navy and honestly because i was on sea duty i had almost no personal time, my ship was constantly deployed. I think if your on shore duty or in a branch where you have more freedom, say the Air force i would think it would be much easier to set up photoshoots etc.
