That’s Banging!

curly natural hair and bangs can be tricky. if you don’t cut them in right and with your hair in the right state, you can end up with a short, jacked mess on your hands. many stylist don’t recommend bangs for short hair, even ouidad is not a fan, but i beg to differ. when done right, bangs can give kinky curly hair a sexy and sleek feel.

i get a lot of questions about my bangs. i love to rock my hair with bangs because i think it really changes up my style and gives me an entirely different look. because my hair is so long – my bangs fall to my neck – the way i set my bangs at night is by spritizing them with a mixture of rose water, olive oil and aloe vera juice to get them a little damp; not soaking. two lite sprays usually does it. then i add a touch, just a dime size amount again, of either leave-in conditioner or styling cream. to finish it off, i braid them up in one braid and then pin the braid into a bantu knot. by doing this, i allow my bangs to shrink up short enough to give me a look that appears that i had my hair cut. i also only pull down a little bit of hair. my bangs are too thick to have them all in my face so i only pull down enough that allows me to still peep through because they normally fall over my eyes by the end of the day like in my photos above.

in the morning, i take my “bangs” down and go about styling my hair. this trick always works well for me. to add a little flair to my hair, sometimes i set my bangs with so sexy conditioner as my “leave-in.” during the day, i get light whiffs of my hair and it smells so good.

i don’t recommend getting bangs cut into super tight, kinky, curly natural hair unless it’s in your final styled state, meaning, when you go into the salon, your hair should be styled the way you want to wear it and then do a DRY cut on your curls. that way you’ll know exactly where your bangs will fall. there are some salons that may be able to do a wet cut but the smaller your curls the more i recommend a dry cut on curly hair. for kinky girls like me, this is imperative because our shrinkage is so different from day to day going up to 25% of our true length that if you want bangs, it may be best to cut your bangs dry. that way you’ll end up with the length you want that wont be too short.

YES! I like bangs (called a ‘fringe’ here in the UK), I think they frame the face nicely.
I find that my hair is too much in my face though, so I tend to do a side fringe.

I also love love love the look of this site!!! It’s giving me everything!

I am definitely doing bangs this year to switch up my style a bit. I’m going to do them myself on two strand twists that have dried over nite. Since I usually wear my hair in twists or twist out I think they should come out great.

I almost always wear bangs, mostly because I like how it frames my hair and how makes my eyes look Xtra fierce.

I like your blog! Your hair is beautiful and so are you! While I love my short natural hair, I look forward to playing with length. Well my daughter has length and I am still learning on both of our heads. I remember when my hair was long(relaxed), and I had that short bang. Ohhhh my hair was banging fresh out the salon(wish I had a pic!) and I had to go to work and put on a hair net. Sorry, had a flash back!

My hair is not at the length for bangs quite yet. But when I wear my big curly weave i always always always rock a bang! Love the look cant wait to be able to wear it with my own hair!

I have bangs because I did my own bc and seven months later my hair is still much shorter in the front. But once the fringe reaches chin length I’ll FINALLY get a trim to even out the short and long patches.

I”m patiently waiting foe my hair to grow so I can rock this look…few years ago,I tought bangs were only for straight hair but it’s good to know you can enjoy diversity even with kinks and koils.

I have bangs. they are great becasue my hair in the front my tends to weather from leaving hair in my face, which causes spilt ends. so, I will say try it. my hair grrw back fast after i cut my bangs.

I’m a huge fan of bangs on curly hair it’s probably my favority curly hair look BUT I’m way too scared to risk it on my own hair. Bangs on tightly curly hair can either be super cute or a complete disaster.
