Faux Wedge Cut

01.31.13 | i want her hair! | by Angel

when it comes to changing up hairstyles, most people default to going drastic with either a cut or color first and then a “new” hair look – updo, side swept curls, or whatever their imagination can come. it’s usually one or the other with the latter usually coming out ahead in most cases. i think we all get that itch to just go left field after seeing so many hairstyles because overtime they often start to run together and look the same when all you yearn for is something fresh and funky.

late last year, i decided to try to play with my shrinkage. i wanted to see what i could get out of it besides the need to pull my coils out. okay, so honestly, i keep my hair stretched because it’s way too long to keep shrunken. it’s hades trying to detangle and full head of shrunken hair and i avoid it at all costs, but a small portion of shrunken hair i can do. so of course my idea factory started churning and i kept coming back to something reminiscent of an undercut or shaved sides. my hair was too long to pull if off but i never gave up on the idea. what to do…what to do…

ambrosia and i must have had the same ideas in mind but she found success in her attempt with this cute faux wedge cut . no scissors needed either, just pure bravery to let your hair shrink up on one side and stretch out the other and you have curls a la shrinkage which look good and give off a modern salt and pepa vibe.

i’d go a little cray worrying about tangles every second of the day so to prep the shrinkage side of this faux wedge cut, using a good leave-in conditioner that’s rich and thick like carol’s daughter hair milk leave-in followed up with a light coat of jojoba oil to maintain moisture without being heavy or greasy (or before your conditioner if you wish; whatever works for your mane) and topped off with some curl sealer by nothing but will help to keep dryness and tangles at bay. we like the curl sealer because it keeps coils defined and moisturized without a greasy feel so it will help to keep your curls separated. it also won’t hurt to do this after co-washing your hair so you can be sure that your hair isn’t too stripped and dry and we love l’oreal’s cleansing conditioner for clean and moisturized curls. a style like this on hair that’s longer than shoulder length should not be kept in for more than a few days because even with precautions, sleeping on a already shrunken head of hair is not a good idea.

either way this style is funky and a little bit risky but that’s why we like it. no need for hum drum, we like to play with our hair and use is as an extension of our style and anytime we can have a hair cut without actually getting one is a-okay in our books!

Fab.Fab. FABULOUS!!!! I rarely stretch the back of my hair sans twistout simply because I’m beginning to detest hair on my neck and shoulders. But my true shrunken coils chiiilllleeeeeeee hades like you said and great for the look every now and again!

I love Brosia and this is a very imaginative style that I will definitely try when it gets warmer.

Thank you so much for this post! I came across it on FB and immediately shared it with my hairstylist! I love the colors and the style. My biggest isssue in life is shrinkage…it becomes so incredibly frustrating for me but this is definitely a way to embrace the shrink! I will definitely attempt the Fauz Wedge Cut—–Hey-Hey!
