when i first started this blog, had you said to me that in a few years i’d be doing it full time, i probably would have laughed you under a table. at the time, the idea was nice, but surely not something that i thought was in my path. i loved sharing my tips and thoughts on all of the things i discovered while going natural, but blogging was a lot of work and in-between working long production days and enormous amounts of writers block, i didn’t know how long i could keep this up.
last year, as i broached 2012, i sat back to reflect on this blog’s upcoming anniversary and my transition from hobby blogger to full time. with a new year upon me and so many fresh ideas for the blog, i thought back on ways that i could make this space more personal and continue to enhance my experience in blogging while giving you more candid glimpses into my life – you know, so that you know i’m a real person and not some bald dude from uzbekistan going by the imaginary “second life-esque” guise of “kurlybella.” with almost three years under my belt, i can still count on one hand how many times [click to continue…]
for the last few years, my birthday has come and gone in a flash and unrecognizable blur. like the many years before, i find myself on set, on some studio lot, feet aching, running around like a chicken, waiting for my production day to end. that’s exactly how my birthday was last year; down to the wire working as late as ever with me celebrating in the office amongst the rest of the team toasting to my day with mini cupcakes fetched at the deli below our offices. but not this year. this year, i had no hand in any preparations, nor a t.v. show to attend to and my birthday weekend went off with out a hitch. i normally keep it 100% fashion and hair around here because well, that’s what the blog is all about. but since i’ve been having so much fun offline, i decided to share a little bit more about my life. i’m a very private person outside of my sisters and close girlfriends whom i treat like my sisters, so sharing things about my personal life besides work or blogging is a bit unusual and rare for me.
but you guys have been following and supporting me for a while now and i thought it would be a bit different to add a little twist to the blog by talking a little more about my personal life. though, full disclosure here! i could freak out over this decision in a day, month or whenever and delete all evidence to said twisting!
so if you don’t follow the facebook page, this is news to you, but i shared this on the page last week. on a whim i just thought one morning as i was getting dressed, “i’m gonna wear red lipstick today.” so i dug deep down in my train case to find a tube i’d picked up from rite aid forever ago. it was on clearance. i happened upon it while i was over in south central l.a. at a riteaid i’d stopped at in route to the swap meet and it was heaven! everything was on sale. yesterday, i hung out with my girl nikia. when we get together, we always have the best time! this day, we opened up iphoto and went to werk! i look super crazy with my “gangsta” face and nikia is killing it with her androgyny. whenever we take pics together i look at them and i’m like “delete! delete! do over!!!!” seeing as she is a uber boss model, she kills every photo even when she’s not trying to. i’m like this in the photos… [click to continue…]
