my natural hair is not naturally thick but when my hair is freshly washed boy is it “thick” – that’s because my strands are shrunken down, compacted and plumped full of water – and in this state, trying to get my hair in a ponytail is laughable. i’ve broken so many rubber bands it’s crazy! if i lightly blow out my hair, making sure i don’t get it anywhere near bone straight, my hair keeps a lot of that “thickness” as i’m not pulling my kinky, curly texture out straight. even still though, getting a smooth high ponytail or bun was often a lot of vigorous work, until now. a hairstylist insider staple for when you want a smooth, over-sized hair style void of lumps and bumps or snags, hair bungees or pony tail hooks are where it’s at. having passed these styling hooks to the back of my mind, they were forgotten until i was tapped for some advice: [click to continue…]
