getting a good finish on a bantu curls set can often be tricky. just trying to figure out how tight to roll your hair and how many knots to do can get a little bit daunting. additionally, if you have short hair, it can come as a task to get everything right and get your hairs tucked tight enough to end up with a style that is not a hot mess.
i’ll admit, i didn’t master bantu curls out until my hair was past my shoulders. for some reason, i just could not get it right. there was always som hair left out or some parts that didn’t curl but rather had an add frizzy, zig zag combination going on that threw the entire look off. granted, there was also no really great youtube videos like this one from lee showing us how to get it done. creating bantu knots used to be a total shoot in the dark for me but now i like to think i’ve conquered my bantu.
lee started by conditioner washing with TRESemme Naturals Nourishing Moisture Conditioner Aloe Vera and Avocado and with Curl Junkie Daily Fix Cleansing Hair Conditioner. a little bit of her leave-in of choice, Giovanni Direct Leave-In, a favorite of ours, helps to condition your curls and which will make sure they are aslo bouncy and provide good moisture under your heat protectant. lee used Carol’s Daughter Macadamia Heat Protection Serum to keep her hair protected since she was blow drying her curls (we also like Carol’s Daughter Chocolät Smoothing Blow Dry Cream as an option for yummi smelling hair as well as the Carol’s Daughter Chocolät Smoothing Sulfate-Free Shampoo and Carol’s Daughter Chocolat Smoothing Conditioner). using an oil like Jojoba oil or Jane Carter Solution Scalp Renew as a finisher to this style – for shine – or layering it under or applying it after your leave-in conditioner. to refresh this style during the week, a mist of Shea Moisture Organic Hold & Shine Hair Moisture Mist and re-knotting your hair to enhance your volumne will do the trick quite nicely.
if you want to create short bantu curls but were not really sure how to do it, this video by lee will give you some good guidance. with the use of a little warm air to get her hair straight, lee works this elegant bantu look like nobody’s business. the best part about this look is that a little patience a great moisturize and a few bobbi pins are all you need to get this style for yourself.
