Ouidad Ultra Nourishing Cleansing Oil

by Angel

other than trying to decide exactly how to pronounce ouidad, (and that’s “we-dhad” if you didn’t know), you may not know much else about the brand besides its unique name. if you are new to the line, we find it a sleeper hit (hello, Ouidad Ultra Nourishing Cleansing Oil) with a few misses in the mix but a brand that when you want to splurge a bit, delivers on most promises. shampoo scares lots of women with curly hair (yes, even us at times) and to be honest, we don’t really review shampoos that often since most of them are chock full of sulfates and the ones that aren’t are just not anything to write home about. but this one has got us a little excited.

new to their ever expanding line, the Ouidad Ultra Nourishing Cleansing Oil is a sulfate and paraben free shampoo that is enhanced with oils. now the frugalistas out there will say, “can’t i just put some oil in my shampoo and wash my hair?” and though you could, what makes this cleansing oil stand out is the mafura butter and kalahari melon seed oil that helps to keep your hair from feeling stripped and overly dry and of course, if you have some of that under your sink, go right ahead and mix away. yes, this shampoo does suds up but not much so it could be considered a part of the “low-poo” family quite easily. instead of calling this a shampoo, they call it a “foaming, water-activated cleanser” and the shampoo actually itself feels like oil in your hands. fancy houdini name aside it works well. when i washed my hair with it, it felt clean and still moisturized. my scalp felt refreshed but not tight and dry.

i’m impressed with Ouidad Ultra Nourishing Cleansing Oil and find it to be slowly creeping onto my holy grails list but surprisingly that has more to do with the fact that it also makes my hair feel stronger when i use it. the silk proteins and coconut oil that it contains is what helps to bring this shampoo home for me and those of you who have been reading this site for a while know how i’ve felt about shampoo in the past! it takes lots of uses and lots of consistent results to make it on that short and guarded list, but it just may. the price is not anything to laugh at, but seeing as i only have to use a quarter size amount of this shampoo and it works without making me feel like my curls are fighting a loosing battle – the kicker is i could easily gently finger detangle through my hair as i ran the suds down my strands. i need a clean scalp and i need strong and clean hair and Ouidad Ultra Nourishing Cleansing Oil gives me this without second guessing my wash game and i’m loving that. my hair loves oils and my hair loves this shampoo.

Oh this sounds amazing. Is it just for curly hair though?

letitia, no it’s not. you can use it on straight hair if you find that your hair likes oils. but most hair will respond well to this shampoo, it’s the oils that make it even better and are fortifying to all hair textures.
