it’s about that time again and don’t act like you are not at least a little bit familiar with this phenom being contemplated or happening, right now even, in hundreds of bathrooms, salons and in front of home vanities across the country. the “i gotta get straight for the holidays” bug that many a natural catch as they itch to enjoy their length and show off to family hair haters (wait did i just write that?) unbelievers and that one cousin who’d rather keep her broken off edges and wispy, thin hair than dare go natural that despite all of their nay saying that you’d never grow hair that you are indeed doing that thang!

okay that may be taking it a little too far, but i know i spoke to some of your hearts. (i won’t tell if you won’t). if that’s a bit much or not and you want to press your hair but don’t want to do double heat duty by piling on the heating tools, then take a cue from ariella herself as she shows you how to add heatless flips & waves to your straightened natural hair. heatless curls on natural hair? i’m gonna need santa to match that.

ariella likes to mix it up on her youtube channel by going from curly to straight every now and again and like she is showing us, this style is easy and fun and is a big load off for kinky and curly girls who want to go straight but dread having to use too much heat (raises hand; though i’m not sure if i’m gonna press at all this year, but just in case…). all you need are a few pins and some great smelling straight hair because if you are in for an extra treat, go ahead and make sure your hair smells like chocolate after you straighten it out.

remember heat does not have to be the enemy, it’s the misuse of it that is. hmmm, it’s kinda like mcdonalds french fries. so good with all their deep-fried, buttered, lard and indescribable, inhumane chemicals, but too many trips through the drive through will have you heading to the biggest looser ranch crying and talmbout how you lost control. it’s called moderation folks.

i can admit, i’m a bit skeptical too but after saving up my pennines to splurge on a croc 2 infared flatiron, this $40 remington iron is already well within budget and the claims, the claims, women sitting in humid rooms for testing and no frizz?! whew, my heart just fluttered for those couple of times i year i do press. “the ceramic plates are infused with conditioning polymers designed to provide even protection across your hairstyle. tests show that hair straightened with this iron stays straighter and healthier when compared to a conventional plate iron.” remington

i did a little digging around to see how true these tests were, because product manufacturers are always a wee bit biased to their own line, and found this confirmation from good housekeeping. “to test these claims, good housekeeping research institute scientists straightened curly hair swatches with the remington iron, a leading flat iron, and the leading iron plus a top-selling anti-frizz serum; then they put the swatches in a high-humidity, climate-controlled chamber for up to 15 hours. for the consumer portion, volunteers styled one-half of their hair with the remington iron, the other half with the control iron, and were assessed for frizz after six hours, plus 10 minutes in the chamber. they also used the remington at home.

the good thing about this flat iron is that it comes with a limited 4 year warranty and you can just run out to target to get it. if you don’t like it and if you don’t fee like it lives up to it’s claims, you can hop in the car and take it right back to the red circle boutique. no need to worry about shipping and spending hundreds of dollars on a flatiron.

so i know you are wondering and yes, i’m going to get this iron. i have to try it out at least for research purposes to see if it’s all that it’s cracked and hyped up to be. i may be wearing my hair straight for the holidays as i normally do, so it will be a nice surprise to hang with the family in the humidness that is the sunbelt and not worry about my press out only getting a good two hours in before it starts to revert. if this iron is really, all that, it could change the pressing game and i suspek higher end brands will follow!
