LEAVE-IN

i’m the biggest christmas junkie! i love all things mistletoe and crackling fire related. i love to drag my friends along to go drink cider with me and the whole act of tree shopping the day after thanksgiving, dragging our noble fir home on top of the car and putting it up while listening to motown christmas music. it is one of the highlights of the season for me.

i also love the smell of peppermint and the act of eating tons of it. so much so that by the time the holidays are over, the sight of peppermint makes me feel overwhelmed! but until then, i’m all about getting my candy cane on. if you are a fan of the mint, then try this peppermint and vanilla leave-in that also doubles as a hair perfume. your hair will feel light and fabulous and your holiday guests won’t be able to stop telling you just how holiday festive you smell!

“i recently big chopped like a month or so ago so i’m relatively new to this whole thing. my problem is that my hair is super thick but my scalp is super tender. combing my hair is an absolute nightmare for me! do you have any advice for how to soften up my hair so it is easier to comb?” – g (not pictured)

aw, g, you’re a tenderoni. and no, not the bobby brown kind either. i used to be uber tender-headed as a child though now not so much though i do have my moments. my sister on the other hand is so tender headed that she hardly lets anyone touch her hair including me. and i try to avoid it anyway. styling her hair is straight out of color purple. i mean, you simply look at her head hard and she starts to wince. to get around her tender ways however, she follows a few strict hair softening rules to keep her scalp and herself calm.

okay so i’ve been going bananas over my new favorite leave-in conditioner for my natural hair and i know you all are tired of me talking about it! (just in case you missed my review, click here to see my new favorite leave-in conditioner)

anyway, it’s inspired me to try to search out more conditioner goodness. i want to find another leave-in that i love as much as i now love my gvp conditioner from sally. because of this new conditioner i now LIKE kinky curly knot today and giovanni as before i used to love them – they’ve been knocked down a notch.

so while i’m on my search for another holy grail leave-in [click to continue…]

on my “to try” list, and high up on it i might add are ouidad products. anything that’s hard to pronounce and comes in a pretty bottle is intriguing to me – hey, we all have our vices. okay, i’m just being tongue and cheek. my true reason in trying a product is based on brand quality and reputation as well as ingredients.

recently, i ran across ouidad’s moisture lock™ leave-in conditioner that somehow slipped off of my product radar.

let me tell you something right now, [click to continue…]

the green stuff that is wheat germ oil. this stuff is awesome and what i mean by awesome is awesome!! if you have not used or thought about using wheat germ oil, well then i’m going to need you to rethink that.

though wheat germ oil is great for salads because of it’s nutty taste, it’s also excellent for hair because it is a ceramide oil. ceramide oils work by creating a sort of protective barrier around the hair shaft which in turn holds in moisture and protein all while also protecting the hair from heat damage and UV rays (so it works as a sunscreen for your hair) and in doing so, helps to “repair” or prevent further damage to the cuticle layers of your hair.

you can use wheat germ oil a few times a week to keep your hair soft and supple. but don’t just take my word for it, try this hair magic moisturizer our for yourself!

hmmm, so there i was, in my favorite, easy-to-get-to beauty supply scoping out their generic products for a leave-in and there it was, their generic value products (gvp) conditioner. a whole 16 oz of it in a cheaper version of paul mitchell “the conditioner”.

i was intrigued. intrigued because i’d heard so many good things about paul mitchell “the conditioner” so i wanted to see if this version could keep up with the hype and because i really wanted to try a new leave-in that didn’t cost an arm and a leg – i was willing to forgo “all natural” for a good leave-in. {at home hair spa} pH balanced-based daily leave-in spritz

February 7, 2011 at home hair spa

i’m a big fan of pH balanced conditioners. after using them, my hair feels significantly different overall than it does when the conditioner is not pH balanced. my hair has always responded best to balanced pH and i know that’s because my hair needs to have my cuticles lay back down as flat as they [...]
