Short hair isn’t something most women dream of having. When I went natural, I’d hoped that my hair would grow to be a big curly mane. I wanted hair so huge that you wouldn’t be able to sit behind me in a movie theater. I wanted people to be able to spot my fro out of a crowd. I didn’t have any intentions of keep it cropped, but that soon changed. Now I can honestly say that I love my TWA.
Society would have us believe that in order to be feminine, long hair is a requirement. We’re taught this from a very young age. All of my dolls had long hair. The Hollywood stars that I envied had long hair too. So many of our beauty references are associated with this idea. If that weren’t true, many women wouldn’t stock up on wigs and extensions. Just think about some of your own natural hair icons. How many of them actually have short hair?

Hello lovelies! It’s your Fairy Model Mother here. We’ve been super busy at the KISFORKINKY hairquarters working on some new features that we’ll be rolling out shortly, but never too busy for a little Q & A. oh my goodness! how cute is this hairstyle?! i don’t know who this chica is but what i do know is that this hairstyle is boss. perhaps she is growing out her locs and saved a bit just to rock this hairstyle, or maybe this was all impromptu. whatever the story behind this style, it’s too doll, no?
who would have thought that leaving some of your locs in a cropped twist and locs style would have lead to this absolutely fab hairstyle. locs for bangs. very new to me and i’m loving it. [click to continue…]

i never wore my hair out when i big chopped. i grew my hair for about a year and then i chopped it off. it was too shocking for me to get over quickly because i felt it didn’t go with my face shape so i wore a sew in until it was long enough for me to wear out.
so though i’ve never experienced this, i get it. a twa can be a very beautiful and feminine hairstyle just like bambii is showing us it can be, but it’s also a style that lends to androgyny and our masculine sides and has to be played up for some women. [click to continue…]
